now she's nine!

The past week or so has been filled with lots of fun.... Ellie is fast becoming a true American kiddo. She loves pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs and I am sure apple pie if you were to give her some. She loves swinging, playing outside, music, dolls, high heels, purses, jewelry, all things girly, dancing, laughing, laughing, and laughing some more. She turned 9 on Wednesday (Oct. 1st)...she had no idea it was her birthday.
We had to tell her a number of times...."today you are 9". We are blessed with many friends...but on this particular night for Ellie's birthday we had just a couple of friends over for Chinese and birthday cake. One friend speaks mandarin...Ellie had so much fun talking...in mandarin. She was like a wind up doll that never wound down...or maybe more like the energizer bunny. She truly felt like a princess. We are indeed a very blessed family to have her in our lives!

Ellie continues to meld into our family so well. We continue to learn more about our daughter...she has much more spunk than we thought. She laughs often...is seemingly quick witted (although for now it is in mandarin, so we are not real sure what she is saying) and is very ready to go to school. The other night when our mandarin speaking friend was over. He asked Ellie if she wanted to go to school. Her reply, "Yes, I want to go to school. When do I get to go?" Our friend replied, "I don't know, ask your mom". Ellie laughed and quickly added, "I can't ask my mom, she only speaks english!" Well...Ellie has been enrolled in school. She begins 3rd grade at Walnut Grove Elem. (where all the kids go/have gone to elem. school). Her teacher is a friend of ours and there is an aid in the class. So, Ellie will receive some one on one attention and have an ELL teacher. She is really excited. Mom is excited and a little apprehensive as well. I worry about all those mom things when kids go to school. But, I know God loves her more than we do. He has and will continue to give her what she needs to love and be loved.
How are we doing? We are doing so incredibly well! God has and continues to meet us in this journey. We know there will be trials medically, emotionally, academically...but we all face these trials with all our kids on some level. We are still waiting to get an appointment for a consult in regard to specific medical issues. Please continue to pray for Ellie this week in particular as she goes to school for the first time. Please also pray for all of her teachers...that they would love her and challenge her in appropriate ways. The school is very excited for Ellie to be there...we pray she will flourish...
